Dexter Gordon often said: "Darling, bebop is the music of the future." But it's doubtful he anticipated the general hashing and rehashing that's been fashionable of late. As bassist Lello Molinari's No More Mr. Nice Guy (Accurate AC-450 1) proves, bebop still is a viable musical force when used as a springboard by group of careful thinkers. No, this is not a band of cerebral types which calculate every chord change, motif, and nuance. Theirs is music more accurately described as risky and on the edge (with shades of 1960's avant-garde). They aren't afraid to take chances with improvising, even when reinventing an old war horse like C'era Chi?
